HINT: Stick around for a chance to earn a copy of Imagining After Capitalism!
Foresight student and chronicler-of-the-future extraordinaire Tristan Markwell (see his Notes from the Future) recorded a conversation with on “what’s happened with the After Capitalism topic since the book launch … and I really like how he sliced up our discussions into a series of short video topics:

- Politics and Change: is there actually some common ground between left and right?
- Role of Shifting Values: values shifts take time, which makes it tempting to suggest we need to “burn it down” or destroy the current system so we can get to the transformative guiding images faster … but is that wise?
- The Broader Conversation: is it okay to talk about big visions in public discourse again, or are we still stick in purity test thinking?
- Integrating into Futures Work: how might we start planting the seeds of the long-term IAC future in our work today? That, of course, assumes we “should.”
- Writing as Part of a Career: we need at least one project outside our client work that is fun and we love to do, don’t we?
Book Giveaway!

“Politics and Change: is there actually some common ground between left and right?”
of course there is common ground. high school era question. obvious. both want to security, health, wealth, freedom, etc.
there is even some agreement on “what” to do.
the bulk of the differences emerge from “how” to achieve the common goals. one side wants a strong and heavily-involved government. the other side wants a strong but minimal-involvement government.
