by I am so excited about this year’s APF’s Annual Gathering, which will explore how the Maker Movement, Social Entrepreneurs, and the networked-enabled sharing economy are converging to create emergent change. The gathering will exploit San Francisco’s rich resources in these areas with speakers and learning journeys (aka field trips for grown-ups). Participants will then gather using narrative foresight tools to discuss what these changes may mean for society and the foresight profession. Take a peak at the agenda.
The topic is one we’ve seen emerging and it’s great to have an opportunity to really dig in for a couple of days. Past Gatherings have helped me come to grips with emerging future topics — virtual worlds/reality in 2004, and social media in 2008. In 2004, we got to see Second Life before it was Second Life and in 2008 we played with a whole range of software/apps/concepts — it was my first exposure to Twitter. Still, these are not “weak signal” meetings — I recall a GBN Worldview meeting around 2001 talking about social media — it was a weak signal then. Makers, social entrepreneurs and sharing are no long weak signals — they are here. What does that mean? Let you know in a few days 🙂 Andy Hines.
